Cheap shopping

Due to the unfortunate weather, I decided not to go to SF anymore. Instead we went to do some grocery runs.

On the way there, we had lunch at Miyuki, which is along Solano Ave. It was a Chinese run Japanese restaurant. Well, most Japanese restaurants are either Korean or Chinese run around here anyway. They have a pretty decent lunch special for about $6 plus. The food was nothing to rave about. It was decent for the price you pay but don't expect anything above the norm. Its pretty interesting how they differentiated the lunch crowd from the dinner crowd. For example, we did not get cloth napkins but used paper ones instead. Towards the end of our meal we saw the waitress change the paper napkins to cloth ones.

After lunch, we found Ichiban, a Japanese $1 styled store along 10598 San Pablo. They have another outlet at Japantown and both of them pretty much sell the same things. They have really cute bowls, plates and other stationery items there, all for under $5. Then it was off to the $1 depot which is right next to Marshalls. If you have never been there before you should definitely go check it out. They sell a lot of food, household, cooking, aceessories, stationery items for a buck. Its a little ghetto and going there always makes me feel like sneezing but its a bang for your buck.

Ranch 99 is always a good place to shop for Asian goods. But they also have really cheap Hagan Daz ice cream. The price is permanantly at $3. Nothing like Safeway which only occassionally gives you that price. The produce at Ranch isnt very ffresh but at such low prices, the fruits and vegetables still go pretty fast.

On our way home, we stopped by Trader Joe's (TJ) to grab a bottle of their organic peanut butter. Yes all that effort for one bottle of peanut butter. But thats what you need to do when you want good quality stuff.
