East Village, West Village, Greenwich.
Went to the heart of hippiness and gentrification today. It was well...lets just say the villages were very different.
East was run down....yet to be gentrified completely. But a cup of mocha cost me USD3!!! What does that tell you? The cafes are for yuppies!
West was happening and had NYU...lots of cafes, eateries, pubs bar..we even saw cafe wha where apparently Bob Dylan was discovered. Or at least he performed there before. I think I wouldn't mind studying there!! Went to a peanut butter company where a peanut butter sandwich cost like USD5.....OUCH.
And we went to this street....8th Avenue. There was shoeshop after shoeshop...And it was well staffed by black people..for some weird reason. Every shop had black sales people. Weird considering that the villages were a little whiter...but anyhow..I bought a pair of sequinned shoes for USD10! good deal!
My feet really ache....the URS slippers really suck for a lot of walking....And the subways smell like pee...And the roads are really dirty. but I'm in NY..its full of life. I havent seen anyone famous. Doubt I will. But hey! Its NEW YORK! The city that never sleeps!!! And it truly doesnt.....At night, tourists and locals throng times square..non stop man...and of course theres always the guy at the corner who sells the fake "pagoda" (read prada) bags....and LV too man..the all too familiar prints....I bet they are from china..though one can ezily tell that that the quality is no good.
Oh, for food..try Uncle Nick's near hell's kitchen. Its great Greek Food! about $15 per person?
Joe's Shanghai at Mott for WONDERFUL xiao long bao. I think they thrash Ding Tai Feng any day man.
