Wrapping up Singapore

AND TIE A YELLOW RIBBON ROUND IT!

Its been a long while. 2.5 months. And I can split it into: Pre internship,Internship, Social, DPPS/DSSP ( i still dun remember which)

Time to reflect and wrap it up. I've learnt a lot about the world and people around me, made new friends and even managed to spend more time with my family.

This is a half entry. WORK IN PROGRESS

Internship

I learnt a lot..from the older, wiser and more experienced people in office. It wasn't just about work, it was about life. I learnt that I should not always be so judgemental..And I realized that I am actually not. Its just that I tend to say the first thing that comes to my mind..when after this first thought I do think of the more fair and neutral perspective. I don't know why I always like to showcase the more negative side.
Aside from that, I met people not only in the civil service but also dudes who were contract staff...My office, Shao Wei, wsa really nice to me. In fact, everyone was. I had long conversations with Yin Li about life and religion. Mun Wei taught me how to approach issues from different perspectives and how youth our age will always be "anti establishment" haha. I bet many people will beg to differ.
I got to meet people from VWOs and see the great work they were doing. It made me feel so useless...and I met Melissa who showed me that socialites have a conscience and that anything was possible. You just need the info.

DPPS

As Boon so kindly pointed out, its DPPS not DSSP. We had speakers from various ministries swing by....give us their spiel. Some were frank, some were not. Some thought they were very funny, and one made me want to kick him in the face.

Yes, he pissed me off. Not too easy to do when I barely know someone. Lets just say the attitude was less than perfect and exceedingly condescending.

But on a positive note, they did feed us really well and I made some new friends as well as met up with the old. Whats my biggest take away? aside from the fact that policy work is not easy and that Singapore's approach to issues is very interesting n people tend not to question it...

as Charlene would say, 5 KG!!!!
