The Tiring Social Circus

The world is such a tiring social arena sometimes.

1. You meet people you don't like but you have to interact with them.
2. The number of people who look for you to take pictures is a count of your popularity.
3. One has to make small talk to be polite.
4. Flaunt it. Subtly. Or people will think you are boastful. But don't flaunt it and people won't respect you.
5. Smile. Looking pissed and serious never helps.
6. Try not to be too frank (a fault I have) or you might make enemies
7. Say you like it even when you hate it. Its called being polite.
8. Keep circling the arena to keep yourself in the loop.

ITs sad though don't you think? Its such a fine line. So when do you deicde you are too tired to play charades anymore. Who do you dislike but bother to be nice to. Who do you not give a hoot about.

So cynical? Well, I guess these are just "conventions". But we don't HAVE to follow the conventions you know. This might sound a little idealistic, but all we've got to do is stay true to ourselves, and the people we really care about. And if its not too much trouble adhering to these so-called conventions, then by all means, go ahead and do so. But one should never compromise on one's own peace of mind.
